Like computer monitors, LCD TV's come in several resolutions. HDTV's almost always have an aspect ratio of 16:9, so resolutions are quoted by width. Any TV will be able to support its maximum resolution, as well as any others below it. Blu-Ray and most broadcasts now have a native resolution of 1080p. There are a few very high end sets that have an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (a bit over 21:9) to match that of movies, but these can display normal HDTV broadcasts as well.
Contrast ratio is a measurement of the difference between the darkest and lightest color a screen can produce. This is standard, and a good indicator of the screen's display quality. Dynamic contrast ratio is measured by varying the brightness of the backlight. While these numbers look impressive, they aren't standardized, and in real world performance won't come close to meeting the stated ratio.
Many new LCD TV's offer Internet connectivity, but the usefulness of this varies depending on the software the set is running. Some may support popular sites like YouTube and Twitter, but others may only have weather reports and a news ticker. Like any computer-based technology, this is quickly changing, and later updates may expand the services a TV will provide.
Connectors should also be taken into consideration. Some TV's have gone completely to HDMI, which is good for HD video sources, but will require adapters if you use older equipment. If you plan on wall mounting your TV, the connectors should be at the bottom of the unit so they are still accessible. However, the location of these plugs can be a problem with TV's placed on a stand, as the wires will take up any space below the TV: Blu-Ray players and other devices will need to be located elsewhere.
No TV can provide good surround-sound performance by itself. Some sets offer "virtual" surround sound. This delays some of the sounds slightly to make it seem like they're farther away. This provides better performance than regular stereo, but if you want a real theater experience a separate sound system is a must. While speaker systems are another article to themselves, this is "LCD TV Guideline for non-tech buyers," keep in mind that you will want a digital audio connector on your TV, as this has become the standard for external systems.
Depending on the setup in the room the TV will be located, viewing angle will also be a consideration. As you move to the left or right of the screen the image darkens, making it unwatchable. Manufacturers rate viewing angle by what angle you can see the image while only having 10% of the screen's contrast. This is a far cry from a viewable image. Fortunately, there's an easy way to test this: go to an electronics store and walk by a display model. If you can't move far from the center of the TV and still have a good picture, don't buy it.

How to Wall Mount Plasma Or LCD TVs
A lot of people shy away from mounting their brand new plasma or LCD TV on the wall because they think it's a job that involves a lot of work, or something that can only be done by a professional installer. This certainly is not the case! Mounting your TV on the wall not only offers you the best possible viewing position, it also helps to free up valuable floor space and easily adds a contemporary touch of style to any room. This article will guide you through the process, and in no time at all your new TV will have pride of place on your wall.
The first job is to choose a suitable wall mount. The three basic types are fixed mounts, tilt mounts and tilt and swivel mounts. Fixed mounts can't be adjusted and hold the TV flat against the wall. Tilt mounts allow you to tilt the TV vertically, while tilt and swivel mounts (including those with articulated arms) allow you to tilt the TV vertically, and also pivot it horizontally - these are good to use if you want to be able to watch the TV from another room. There's a lot of information available online about the different types of mount, so do your research. If you are still in doubt then the sales assistant at the store should be able to help you find a mount that meets your needs.
Mounting your TV on the wall doesn't require any specialist equipment, just a few simple household tools such as a stud finder, spirit level, drill, screwdriver, tape measure and a spanner. Now you have all the tools you need, let's get started!
Step 1 - Use the stud finder to locate the studs inside your walls and mark these out with a pencil. After spending your hard earned cash on a new TV you want to make sure that it is securely mounted to the wall studs rather than just plasterboard. Plasterboard isn't strong enough to support the weight and it wouldn't be long before your new TV goes crashing to the floor!
Step 2 - Most brackets come in 2 parts: one that attaches to the back of the TV, and one that is mounted on the wall. You then attach these 2 together and your TV is mounted. Attach the appropriate piece to the back of your TV. Most mounts have various holes to accommodate different TV sizes. Secure this part to your TV with the various washers, bolts and spacers supplied. Be sure to read the instructions supplied with your mount if you are in any doubt.
Step 3 - Now you need to decide on the ideal place for your TV to be mounted. Figure out where you want your TV to be hung, making sure that you select a position that allows the TV mount to be securely attached to the wall studs that you located in step 1. Mark out this location on the wall using a pencil and then sit down where you usually watch TV to make sure you are happy with the viewing angle and that it won't strain your eyes or neck to look at the screen.
Step 4 - Now it's time to actually attach the second part of the mount to the wall. Drill a hole and attach the mount to the wall stud, using the supplied screws or bolts to secure it in place. Use the spirit level to make sure that the mount is level - the last thing you want is for your TV to be lopsided. Repeat this process until the mount is securely fastened to the wall.
Step 5 - With the second part of the mount securely fastened to the wall it is time to hang the TV. Even modern TVs can be quite heavy, so it's always best to get a friend or family member to help you with this. Lift the TV up, and slide the part of the mount attached to the back of the TV into the part mounted to the wall. The instructions supplied with the mount will explain how the mechanism for your specific mount operates. Once your TV is on the wall secure it using any necessary bolts or screws to ensure that it is firmly locked in position.
Your new TV should now be safely fastened to the wall, so sit back and enjoy!

This set is a great introduction to Highland Aromatics and with the woven basket makes a nice change from the 'bog standard' gift sets of smellies.
Included is a 100gm tin of body butter which my partner describes as 'simply lush', an 80gm soap bar which is delightfully soft, and a lavender bath fizz which we haven't used yet.
A great gift idea.

The soap is great. The body butter is excellent. I would prefer it to be a little more delicately scented, because with the warmth of the body it becomes more intense but that's a detail. The lavender fizz, I haven't tried yet but I assume it's as good as the rest of the products.
The size of the contents is fine for the price but the basket is much bigger than the stuff it holds, so when I opened it, it seemed to be half-empty. That's the only thing that would make me hesitate to offer it as a gift. If it seemed that way to me even though I knew what I had ordered, then I don't suppose it would look better to the person I would give it to.

Hand Made Soaps
Our soaps are all made by hand in our own factory by hand. Each block is poured by hand, and then sliced by hand. All the shapes you see in the slices are made of soap and they are made by hand too.
We use the finest quality ingredients and essential oils to make our soaps. They all contain Glycerine (from Palm oil) which is proven to lock moisture into the skin, meaning our soaps moisturise while gently cleansing your skin. They are very mild, having a pH of around 7 which is neutral.

Blinded by the cheap price. I impulse purchased this product.
I felt a lot like the dude in the Burger King advert. The one where he dives through the shop window, leaps into his car & tells the misses "Go GO GO" LOL. because a price this good feels like your stealing. However..
I have several External Hdd's including a WD 320GB passport & a 500GB WD My Book so trust me the WD elements 1TB is the slowest of the lot.
Would I still purchase this product knowing about the slow data transfer..yes.
The data transfer rate maybe slower than the average bear but I haven't noticed any speed loss acessing the data on the drive.
I have Hi-Def Movies on mine that i acess using the PS3 without a single problem.

I have six of these, and I've ordered two more. I use them with a Popcorn Hour A-110 media player.
They're not the quickest USB drives in the whole World, but they're reliable, reasonably priced, they look nice, they're quiet, they run cool, and they're stackable - if, like me, you have a spiralling media habit, when you need to add another drive you can pile it on top of the others.
A testament to how good these things are - they're really, really hard to find. PC World, Currys and places like that get stock every two or three months, then they sell out in a couple of weeks. Even Amazon, with their enormous bargaining power, have to wait two months for stock... think about it!
Good value for money
I bought this to backup all the family's files. Transfering lots of data onto it was slow, but that's a one off event. It won't take long to sync a few changed files if I remember to do it regularly.
It is solidly built and good value for 1TB of storage.
Please note: if you want to store any files larger than 4GB then to need to reformat it to NTFS (it comes formated as FAT32). This is simple to do in windows - just right click the drive and select format to find the format window. It takes a long time to do but you only have to do it once.

Excellent 1080p Cable Very good affordable cable. Have no problems with it. The quality is just stunning. Supports 1080p signals. Don't be cheated by Curry's/Comet into buying a more expensive cable. Great value product I have 2 of these cables, one for xbox 360 & one for a sony free view DVD recorder connected to Samsung 52" lcd tv. The picture is perfect, i see no reason why you should spend any more money on a cable as it will not improve the picture quality. I have had no issues with this product, the connections are sturdy and the cable has a quality look and feel. The only thing that may be a problem is the length, this is not an issue for me as my dvd & xbox are on the tv stand shelf under the tv.

Good Card
Sandisk make good quality kit, but there is a problem with SDHC in that you will probably need a SDHC card reader for your laptop/computer. I have 2 laptops 1 HP and a Toshiba both with SD card readers, neither like SDHC so I had to buy a USB SDHC reader and it works a treat. I will point out that this is not the fault of the card or card manufacturer, but if you have to have a bigger card then its new technology and you will need new kit, otherwise buy 2 2Gb cards they will be OK.

What can I say, Nice Card works well in my Garmin Nuvi 760.
I see some bad reviews on SDHD cards this is because it is a new format, not all SD Card readers can see SD HD, even though they are physically identical. This includes new devices being sold here, read the device instructions / specifications first then place your order to make sure it will support the card, and don't be too surprised if you have an existing bit of kit that won't see it. If you have any doubts buy a 2Gb SD card as most SDHD readers are backwards compatible and will see it.
In the case of Garmin check out the website FAQ this is the only place where it says max size is 4GB SDHD.

Just how cheap can this memory get ?
I am using this card in my Kodak Z1015 HD video capable digicam, the card is fast enough to cope with HD video to be continuously streamed to the card, I recently shot a continuous 29 min video with no problems whatever (8GB would have given me much longer)...it seems just great
This card is classified as a "class 2", which means that it must have a minimum write speed of 2 megabites per second, this seems fast enough for my purposes, other cards are classified at class 4 (4 mb/s min) or class 6 (6 mb/s min), so its not the fastest, but it seems fine for video
Just a note though....make sure that the device that you plan to use this card with is SD HC compatible as some older devices wont recognise this card
I am sure that memory will get even cheaper, but this seems like a great price to me, high street retailers often charge three or four times this price...Sandisk is a well known brand name too...great value

I bought this item from Amazon via a different seller but for a similar price (£2.79) and I'm very happy with it. The item itself is a simple single slot device but has allowed me to access my new camera's SDHC card without draining the camera battery.
My existing card reader doesn't support SDHC so this little gem has made my life easier at a low cost which is something I'm very happy about. It works fine with my Sandisk 8GB SDHC card and I've also successfully tested it with a 64MB Integral SD card and the 32MB Canon MMC+ card that came with my camera. I'm using it succesfully on an iMac with USB 1 ports.
I can't comment on long term use but my initial thoughts are very favourable, especially for the price.

Dry, comfy and well designed.
I have found wellingtons to be a necessary evil. Most keep your feet dry, at least till they spring a leak, but few are comfortable to walk in. Taking a size 8 and a half in shoes, I find I have to go up in size and this only seems to increase my problem with them. No matter what, my socks seem to always want to slip down and bunch near my toes. I have tried a variety of makes over the years with varying degrees of success, but my new Karrimor Unisex boots have proved to be a most pleasant surprise. Not only are they quite comfortable to walk in, they seem very well designed. As a daily dog walker, I meet many different types of terrain and they seem well fitted for a range of purposes. They seem more like extended shoes with the side adjusters so simple to use. The soles provide excellent grip which I find necessary when crossing burns in spate. And there seems little danger of me stepping out of them accidentally in soft, muddy foreshores or peat bogs in the moors nearby. This being the case, the only slight problem is in getting them off without some form of assistance. I would recommend one of the many inexpensive 'welly removers' to save frustration.
All in all, I am delighted with my new boots and find them an excellent bargain at Amazon's competetive price!

Just received my Converse Chuck Taylor's and have to say I am very impressed. Managed to find a telephone number to contact Amazon and changed my order at late notice (from Navy to classic black), they were very helpful and amended it successfully. These trainers look great with a pair of jeans and have a timeless design that will never go out of fashion. They are also very comfortable and have not been rubbing like most new pairs of shoes do. I think Converse go by American sizes so my advice would be to go for one size down from your usual. The one downside I have found is the quality isn't quite what I thought it would be with the upper consisting of a single ply canvas. This probably helps keep the weight down if you are playing basketball - what the shoes were originally designed by Chuck Taylor to be used for.

But they're good quality, and come in an excellent variety of colours and styles. My daughter loves the Black/Pink/Cherries and they're sporty and fun. (And we ordered from 'Office' and they arrived really quickly).

The packaging could have been better - it was the original converse shoe box in a simple black bag, so the box was a bit battered.
The shoes are great! You can also return them to any Office store so you can save on postage...if you want to return them that is - I dunno why you would!!
I'd defo buy my converses from here, theres also a HUGE selection of styles.

I bought these Croc's in sage, I'm a UK 6 1/2 and the size UK 7 in this Croc is a comfortable fit - I would say that if you are a UK 7 normally then these probably won't fit you, you'd need a UK 8 in the Croc - no bigger.
All in all, I was pleased with these, very good value for money and comfortable. With Croc's they say always buy a size bigger than you usually are, they fit better.

Have to say I agree with all the positive reviews here for Crocs. I bought my first pair after a transatlantic flight where my (normally) comfy shoes were killing me. I wore them for the second leg of the 24 hr flight and for the rest of the holiday. They are brilliant for walking - like walking on air! So comfy! I was really pleasantly surprised about the lack of sweating etc which I was worried about given them being plastic - but the claims about sweat and odour free are spot on.
Since returning I have bought another pair - my only regret? Not buying them in the US as they're MUCH cheaper there!
Really they are just great!!
The perfect footwear.
Tried these on in a shoeshop just for fun. Now I've bought five pairs and I never wear anything else. Like other reviewers I too have plantar fascitis and also have arthritis in one foot. These shoes help tremendously with both. It's like walking on jelly. Not made up jelly but jelly that is still in cubes before you melt it.
I'm giving all my other shoes to the charity shop; I never want to wear anything else. I know they look silly, but what the hell? To be able to walk miles without pain is the most important thing.

Simple even for me !
This TV was a delight to install.It took me about 25 minutes to remove from the box and place on its plinth. I thought it would be heavier to move about but it was easily handled by me and placing in position was an easy exercise. I had actually worried about this maneouvre but my worries ceased when it clcked into position.
The picture is excellent--- cystal clear and I have no problems with the sound even with my 78 years old ears.
Great TV, but the EPG is a bit Naff
Had this TV a couple of weeks now. Had Bravia's before and this one is also good picture and sound wise. Only negative is the Electronic Programme Guide (EPG). If you want to look at the info of a programme on another channel the TV changes to that channel if you press the 'i' button - which is very irritating. Have an older 22" Bravia in the bedroom which doesn't do this so why change it and make it worse! Overall, happy with the TV, but loses 1 star owing to the rubbish EPG.
A Typical Sony TV
Firstly, I have noticed that prices of TVs recently have fallen considerably. In particular, the big makes such as LG, Samsung, and of course Sony. So we ordered this Sony mainly because of the price and as usual a fantastic service is provided by Amazon as it arrived within 2 working days, in perfect condition.
The TV itself is stunning to look at, especially when placed on Levv - Glass Stand For Plasma & LCD TV Up To 32" Or 40kg - Black Glass With Chrome Legs, which is what we bought with it, and so I would fully recommend this combination.
The picture quality and sound are also equally as good, both very crisp and clear. They both have pre-sets, like Cinema, Photo etc., but the one that's best by far in my opinion is 'Dynamic Surround' sound with 'Vivid' picture. The remote is also incredibly easy to use, with few buttons. Don't use the eco setting, as the picture quality is downgraded a lot.
There are few negatives, but one could be that the EPG is a little slow and you cant set a timer, which is trouble for people with an analogue recording equipment.
But overall this is a stunning TV, and probably one of the the best value ones on Amazon. I'd thoroughly recommend it, in fact you'd be mad to not even consider it when buying a 32 inch.

HD Ready TVs enable you to receive images in high television. In fact, it is reported that there are over 33 million American households that already have an HDTV.
But it is really worth buying an HD Ready TV? The answer is yes. This is not because a lot of people are buying it but because most television shows and movies being made are produced in this format.
In order for you to make the most out of your HD Ready TV, you will need to do a few things. You have to connect the components together, make some adjustments in the setting panel and then get a high definition signal.
If you are having some difficulty, read the manual because this is what it is there for. It may not provide you all the answers but by trying a few things on your own and maybe doing some research on the web, you will get the hang of it.
For those who are not too confident about setting up the HD Ready TV, you can always ask the help of a professional to do the job for you.
There are three ways to get a signal for your HD Ready TV namely using an antenna, through cable or satellite. How you want to get a signal is up to you but for your reference, read on to see how to work using the various methods.
If you are getting a signal through an antenna, you will need to buy an external free standing HDTV tuner also known as an ATSC receiver or ATSC tuner and an HDTV antenna. If this is done through cable, you will need an HD cable set top-box that can be rented or purchased from your cable company.
Should the signal come from a satellite, you will need to buy a HDTV decoder also known as an IRD or Integrated Receiver/Decoder as well as a satellite dish. All this can be avoided of course if you buy an HDTV instead of an HDTV set.

Excellent picture, good sound, good service
I bought this for my mother-in-law before there were any reviews available, based on my own good experience with the 40" Samsung LE40A656.
At the time this model (LE32B450C4) was on sale for the same price as the Samsung LE32A436T (for which there were a lot of positive reviews).
It was hard to tell from the Samsung site what were the benefits of one model compared with the other, but I guessed that the LE32B450C4 was the newer model and went for it anyway, despite the lack of user reviews.
Other reviews have criticised the sound quality of other Samsung LCD TVs but this seemed to be absolutely fine in a medium size living room, and the picture quality on Freeview is excellent.
We bought this to be ready for the imminent Digital Switchover,and the only minor niggle is this:
If when you go to change channels you accidentally hit the 0 (zero) button, it switches to the analogue tuner. The documentation doesn't mention this or tell you how to get back to the DTV tuner.
We found by trial and error that hitting the next channel button (perhaps several times) flips you back to the DTV tuner.
I tried it with an HDMI feed from my digital SLR (stills only, can't find what the resolution is supposed to be) and the picture quality was also excellent, very sharp.

With most of them you can replace the memory modules and maybe get as much as 2 GB of memory (which is still not a lot) but before you search out a screwdriver, make sure that doing so does not void your warranty.
You will not have the high-end graphic capability because the graphic processing power is just not there. But at the end of the day, what you DO get is a very capable computing platform in a very small form factor with incredible amounts of battery life. While you are not going to want to open 10 browser windows at the same time like you would on your laptop, the aspect of portability and being able to keep in touch with such a small platform brings new meaning to the term "mobile", and netbook computers are much easier to browse on and send email from than smart phones.
Definitely make sure you do your shopping. The best deals out there can be had from several online locations and web sites. Make sure you understand the return options and the warranty options. But recognizing what a netbook computer can do and was not designed to do, and accepting those limitations, you are likely to be very happy with your new netbook computer.

Probably like many people, I was torn between whether to purchase a pair of UGG boots or EMU boots. In the end, I went for the EMU boots - and couldn't be happier! The Bronte High boots which I went for are much cheaper than UGG boots and have a much thicker hardwearing sole. OK granted that the EMU Bronte boots do not contain real sheepwool lining, only the outer, but they still feel and look gorgeous! The wool is actually Merino wool which is similar to sheep wool. The only criticism I have are that they are narrower than I expected around the calf but I think they will give. Amazon are doing a really good deal on these boots at the moment - I had them in chocolate which are gorgeous! EMU ticks all the boxes in my opinion and I had to write this review to help others in my position who cannot make up their minds - I wasn't dissapointed.
Buy a size smaller!
I bought a similar pair of these last year and ended up giving them away to a friend who had slightly bigger feet! I'm normally a standard 5, but these boots always come up a size bigger. This time round I bought a size 4 and they fit perfectly.
One criticism of them is that if you have slightly larger calves they can be a little tight, I'm a size 12-14 and found them a little restricting on my legs - but maybe that's just me.
These are much nicer than the horribly expensive Ugg boots, which have thinner soles that wear away much quicker and they have a lovely faux fur lining to keep your toes toasty.

When i first saw these boots a few years ago i thought they were hideous but over the years they've grown on me so i thought i'd give them a try and thank god i did!
I can honestly say they are the most comfortable shoes EVER! Your feet feel totally cozy and supported inside its like being outside in your slippers but even more comfortable.
Like most reviews suggest buy a size smaller then your usually size, they may seem a tad bit close but after 2 wears they will be perfect. :-)
I tried on some ugg boots and they are not as comfortable as the emu boots, the emu's are much more spongey and supporting. The UGGs felt flat inside, i'm so glad i went with the emu's.
However the emu's are more narrow around the legs then UGGs are but i don't mind that at all. I've found myself trying to make excuses in my mind of why i need to get the boots in all shades (very tempting) but i suppose thats plain greedy.
Generally folks, great boots give them a try.

Classic Shoe
Just received my Converse Chuck Taylor's and have to say I am very impressed. Managed to find a telephone number to contact Amazon and changed my order at late notice (from Navy to classic black), they were very helpful and amended it successfully. These trainers look great with a pair of jeans and have a timeless design that will never go out of fashion. They are also very comfortable and have not been rubbing like most new pairs of shoes do. I think Converse go by American sizes so my advice would be to go for one size down from your usual. The one downside I have found is the quality isn't quite what I thought it would be with the upper consisting of a single ply canvas. This probably helps keep the weight down if you are playing basketball - what the shoes were originally designed by Chuck Taylor to be used for.

I'm writing this review as I think browsers expect a review of the product here, and a review of the supplier's service in the 'seller profile', not here. The only review so far seemed to be about a mistake with a card, etc, not about the shoes. SO ... they're a bit expensive because they're Converse All Stars and you're paying for the name. But they're good quality, and come in an excellent variety of colours and styles. My daughter loves the Black/Pink/Cherries and they're sporty and fun. (And we ordered from 'Office' and they arrived really quickly).

I wanted the Vitoria Blue coverses but they were out of stock on the Office website - so I checked here and they were in stock!
Very quick delivery - I ordered them Sunday night, got them on Wednesay afternoon.
The packaging could have been better - it was the original converse shoe box in a simple black bag, so the box was a bit battered.
The shoes are great! You can also return them to any Office store so you can save on postage...if you want to return them that is - I dunno why you would!!
I'd defo buy my converses from here, theres also a HUGE selection of styles.
