Santa Claus Costume - Where Did Santa Claus' Red Suit Costume Come From?

When we talk of Christmas characters, perhaps the first name that would come to mind is Santa Claus. As a jolly symbol of holiday cheer, the image of Saint Nick, or Santa, has graced millions of greeting cards, decorations, television shows, and movies for over a hundred years.

As the jovial character of Kris Kringle was popularized with the white beard and red suit, you may wonder: where did this red suit costume come from? Surely, the first depictions of him were different from the images we see today. The original inspiration for the St. Nick character was Saint Nicholas of Myra, in the Netherlands. In the Dutch vernacular, he was referred to as Sinterklaas, who was helped by his servants called Zwarte Pieten, which are now equivalent to his elves.

In the 19th century, various figures depicting Father Christmas were adapted in different countries. Each country attaches a tradition corresponding with the holiday figure, such as songs, poems, and gift-giving. Alterations of the name were also made, depending on the region which celebrates the occasion. It is said that the image of him in the red costume began in the United States in the mid 1800's.

The image of him as an American Christmas icon with reindeer emerged around the 1820's, where he was the lead character in the story published in The Sentinel, entitled "A Visit from Saint Nicholas." Later on, the image of Father Christmas was merged with the identity of Santa Claus.

Among the first few American visualizations of him were of a heavily bearded man wearing an all-fur suit. This image started in 1863 and was drawn by an artist named Thomas Nast, who worked for Harper's Weekly. During this decade, various caricatures of himwere published, and he was soon established as a toy maker and gift-giver.

The first Christmas card showing Santa Claus in his trademark red suit appeared in 1885, and was printed by Louis Prang in Boston. Prang was also known for popularizing the Christmas card giving tradition in America in the 1870's, as this was a practice common among the English.

Over the years, the image of Santa Claus with the red suit became more popular, as it was often depicted in print media, costumes, as well as television and movies. By 1927, a New York Times article explained the standardized image of St. Nick as he is well known among Americans. In the explanation, Santa dons the red suit, red hood, and white beard.

Though many sources claim that the red-suited Santa Claus was created by the Coca-Cola Company, this is contrary to many historical accounts. In the 1930's, Coca-Cola widely used the image to boost the sales of its beverages during the winter holidays. Most believe that the soda company made use of the character because his well-known color scheme is similar to that of the company logo. Though Coca-Cola was not the first to put the red suit on Santa, the company played a big role in popularizing the Christmas character.

Ten Christmas Gift Ideas For Your Man

Ok, with Christmas just around the corner, tempers are getting strained and people are getting stressed. If trying to find the perfect gift for your man doesn't do it, fighting the equally stressed out crowds and traffic can certainly put you in a bad mood.

So, how do you choose that one gift that will say "I really care about you?"

It's easy to buy for women...feminine items like jewelry, lingerie, and perfume or anything related to a favorite hobby or sport that we really enjoy works great.

But what about him? How do we choose something HE's going to like?

While he may fall far from the norm, here are ten ideas for his Christmas gift - at least one should be a welcome idea:

1. If your man has a favorite hobby, something for or about that hobby would be a welcome gift

2. A gift certificate to his favorite book store is always a good choice

3. Tickets to see his favorite sports team play might be appreciated

4. If he likes to travel (or needs to for his job) something to help streamline his packing would come in handy

5. Electronics! - Men are nuts for the latest electronic gadget, game or program

6. Warm leather driving gloves are a good choice for frigid winter days

7. Candy - especially if it's home-made

8. If your man is a hunter, a gift certificate to a sportsman's shop would be appreciated

9. A few CD's for his car would be nice - IF you know his taste in music

10. Tickets to see his favorite group or performer in concert might be welcomed

There you have at least ten ideas as a jumping-off point.

One mistake many women make when buying a gift for the man in their lives is to buy too personal of a gift too soon. He may not yet be at the point where he wants to get that "intimate" with you, or give a gift that puts your relationship on another playing field.

Also, don't spend extravagantly - when he buys you a $30 gift and you spend $800 on him, this tends to make him uncomfortable and feel like you're rushing him into something. So, keep your gifts modest but tasteful. Leave the expensive stuff for after you're married and have talked about your gift-giving plans.

The best gift you can give him is to let him know you appreciate him and enjoy his company without reservation.

You can experience a more enjoyable personal relationship, today. I'll show you how. Click here for your complimentary report, *5 Ways To Keep His Interest* http://www.HypnoticYou.com/5Ways.html

What is the Best Flat Screen LCD HD TV to Purchase For the Money?

Don't give up on tubes...With flat panel TVs emerging nowadays such as plasmas and LCDs, most consumers are highly misinformed and believe that the quality of a flat panel is better than that of a tube (CRT) TV. This is not true at all. The image quality of a plasma or LCD TVs far inferior to a CRT, such as the Sony KD-34XBR970. Even worse, more and more people are buying these flat panel TVs as a 'status symbol' and do not understand true picture quality. Why do you think studios use CRT monitors during production and editing instead of a plasma TV? Most studios want the best, most accurate picture possible, so they use CRT monitors. The quality of the Sony KD-34XBR970 is much like a studio monitor, and surpasses all other displays regardless of cost. The dot pitch is so fine and the picture has so much realism to the point where all other displays look dull and muddy in comparison. Convergence and geometry is perfect out of the box, and the set looked fantastic. Its picture had depth and dimension, unlike the flat look of most plasma and LCD TVs. HD channels look amazing they are very real and are not overly enhanced. The Sony's on-board processing and DRC is perfect and does not make sources look pixelated at all. The picture is fine, clear, and has exceptional detail.

One caveat to remember: The set is shipped in 'Vivid' mode, which is meant to grab your attention in the stores with a bright picture but lacking in clarity. It is way too bright and much too sharp. You can see outlines and picture artifacts in this mode. If you keep the TV in Vivid mode, you are guaranteed to burn the tubes in no time and shorten the life of the TV. Also, the vivid mode is very inaccurate in color reproduction. I have my set calibrated in the 'Movie' mode, with a picture (white level) setting of 20/63 and a brightness (black level) setting of 30/63. Remember, it is very important to lower the 'picture' setting because it controls the amount of white light on the screen. If you do this, the tube will last a very long time and you will see an exceptional image. On the other hand, the 'brightness' setting controls the amount of dark areas you see in the picture. Turning this setting up will allow you to see more dark areas in a movie, but will not burn the tubes or impair image quality. An accurate image is better than a bright one.

Finally, the color decoder needs adjustment as it emphasizes red severely and makes people look reddish or tanned. If you change the 'color axis' setting from 'Default' to 'Monitor,' the colors will be much more accurate and vibrant. If you adjust this set properly and take good care of it, it will produce the best picture of any TV and will last a very long time. (My old XBR TV is 16 years old and still going.) I have a neighbor who spent $10,000 on a plasma TV and the picture quality is far worse than this set. What kind of TV would you buy? Is status symbol more important than image quality? Remember, that after reading this review, you are a much more educated consumer.

Samsung HD LCD TV - 5 Reasons Why a Samsung Flat LCD is a Great Choice For Watching Sports

Are you a sports TV junkie? Do your Sundays consist of watching football from 1:00 until midnight? Is the NCAA basketball tournament a 4 week holiday at your home? Do you spend evenings glued to the local sports network, cheering on all of your favorite teams night after night?

If so then you owe it to yourself to add a new Samsung HD LCD TV to your home. A new Samsung flat LCD will allow you to enjoy your sports in beautiful, crystal clear high definition. If your local market has a HD sports network then you will be able to enjoy just about every game in HD.

Samsung HD LCD TV sales have been going through the roof in recent months and with good reason as quality continues to rise and prices continue to drop. The following are 5 reasons why a Samsung flat LCD is a great choice for watching sports.

1. Smoother motion - Sports viewing in particular places a higher importance on smoother motion due to the fast moving scenes common in most sporting events. The handling of motion was previously perceived as a weakness among LCD technology. As LCD technology has improved in this area, Samsung HD LCD TV technology has really taken major strides forward in the area of motion with the addition of 120Hz starting with their Series 5 (LNxxA550) models. The 120Hz models add Auto Motion Plus, or AMP which provides image interpolation for smoother motion.

2. Great response rates - Another major improvement that Samsung flat LCD TVs have added starting with their Series 5 TVs is a substantially lower (better) response rate that dropped from 8ms, which is common among LCDs, down to 4ms. This improvement in response time will also help create a smooth picture even during times of fast motion.

3. Brightness - One of the big drawing points of LCD as a whole as well as specifically with a Samsung HD LCD TV is the brightness of the screen which will allow you to view the TV even in areas with a lot of ambient light from inside or outside of the room. This is especially important for sports because often times you will have friends over for the big game and you more then likely don't typically don't turn the lights off like you might if you were watching a movie.

4. Vivid colors - Sports viewing is often times a chance to view a wide variety of bright colors. Just think of college football with the contrasting uniform colors and bright colors throughout the crowd. A Samsung HD LCD TV does a great job of reproducing these bright, vivid colors while at the same time displaying accurate skin tones due to better clear panel technology.

5. Ultra wide viewing angles - If you like to have friends over for the big game it is important that each of your guests is able to have a good view of the game. A Samsung flat LCD has an ultra wide viewing angle of 178 degrees which will allow you a good view even if you are sitting off to the side.

A Samsung HD LCD TV is a sports lovers dream. There are many different models available with various features in a wide variety of sizes, whether you are looking for a small 22" model for your bedroom or even better a 52" inch for your living room wall or your home theater/game room.

Fancy Dress Costumes For a Christmas Party

It's getting close to that time of year again!

I think you can guess what I am referring to - Christmas, and all its headaches. What present should I buy for my loved one, or will my Dad like his jumper. Or even will the Turkey defrost in time.

No, I am talking about your Christmas Party. Whether it's at the office or at a friends/relatives (or even if you're hosting), you need to make sure that you are wear the kind of outfit that people will remember until the following year.

You need to make sure that you look good, smart and sophisticated. Easily done if it's the usual Christmas party. Turn up in a suit, or a cocktail dress and you're pretty much sorted.

No, I'm talking about the dreaded FANCY DRESS CHRISTMAS PARTY!

You need to make an effort if you want to make an impact at a fancy dress party, and here are a few simple tips to help you on your way:

1. Santa Claus / Father Christmas - the most famous fancy dress costume at Christmas. But how do you stand out in the crowd when you can pretty much guarantee that there'll be a couple of Santa's in attendance? Well, I would suggest you buy a Santa suit, rather than rent one. Most rental places have the same Santa suit in stock, so by buying yours you can reduce the odds of there being two of the same suits at the party. Next, you could add a little twist to the costume. Why not glam up Santa. Maybe a pair of shades, or an open collar suit showing off a hairy chest and medallion!

2. Go for something a bit more unusual. How about turning up as a character from a Christmas film. Choose the movie, then pick a recognisable character from that film. Some examples are "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and "A Christmas Carol". Turn up as Scrooge, or the ghost of Jacob Marley and you can be certain no one else would! And you become the centre of attention, with everyone asking you who you are etc.

3. If you are attending the party as a couple, why not dress up as a couple. The most famous couple at Christmas is Santa and Mrs Claus. Or a couple of Elves!

4. If you're intending to go dressed as Jesus, or another religious figure, make sure the host(s) will not be offended. There's nothing worse than turning up at a party then being blanked because of what you are wearing.

5. If you really want people to remember the costume you wore at a party, then you need to push the boundaries. Ladies, why not look for one that has a short skirt, stockings and knee high boots. That'll guarantee an invite to all future Christmas Parties!

Remember, the costume you wear will stay in the minds of those at the party - or not, depending on whether its any good! Spend time thinking about the party, who will be attending and what costume can be individualised best. Why be one of several when you can stand out above the rest.

And don't forget, sometimes its cheaper & easier to buy a costume rather than hire one. It only takes a spilled drink or rogue cigarette to ruin a hired costume, and can see you lose your hefty deposit.

Why hire a fancy dress costume when you can buy one for less. http://www.whatcostume.com can help you choose your ideal costume.

Christmas Costumes For Your Holiday Party or Event

Christmas is a festive time of year. There are parties and celebrations lasting from the day after Thanksgiving right up until New Year's. We shop for presents, attend parties, and host our own celebrations. Christmas costumes are an important part of the season. What would a mall visit be without seeing the occasional Santa Claus or Christmas elf walking around or posing for photos?

A party that involves children really wouldn't be complete without certain festive costumes. A visit from Santa Claus is always welcome, especially if he has presents.

If Santa needs a helper, elves can also be fun. You can even find costumes for reindeer, Mrs. Claus, and other familiar Christmas characters such as Frosty the Snowman or The Grinch from How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

And, a list of Christmas characters wouldn't be complete without considering the scenes from the nativity. Churches throughout the world reenact the event of Christ's birth and all the characters involved including the angels, baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and the Wise Men need to be represented. Christmas costumes for the various barnyard animals that may have been present are also a must.

Most of the Biblical Christmas costumes seem to be homemade. Some Sunday school classes turn this into a project. But, Santa Claus costumes and other Christmas costumes are usually rented. The fabrics are often difficult to find and the costumes are only used for a short time. Of course, if you are a department store Santa, chances are the store will provide your costume for you.

While you might not think of Christmas as being a traditional "costume time of year", Christmas costumes are actually quite common. There are even Christmas-themed costume parties that happen around this time of year. It's fun to dress up at any time of the year, not just Halloween. And dressing up isn't just for kids.

Remember that Christmas time is festive and there are costumes present all the time. If you are interested in finding Christmas costumes, you can either make them or rent them. Costume shops have plenty of choices.

You may need to reserve that Santa suit in advance, though. They're popular.

Amazon.co.uk Review
The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

Great!5
Just great. seen it twice now. I love this movie! the joker electrifies the screen, and i am not saying this because of heath, the joker is just amazing and the best! But batman is also brilliant.

Great shots, great acting, very very well made movie. The film of 2008. If you have a high movie standered, love any other comic books (i never like batman but loved this!), love action, suspense, thrillers. this is for you!!!

2.5 hours go very quickly!

Fantastic!!!!5
There is no one on amazon who loves movies than me, i have got a 200inch cinema in my bedroom to watch them and this movie is one of the finest comic hero movies i have seen, just foget about other dvds- i thought ironman was good but this is more better, Heath Ledger(rip God bless him) died a legend- his performance was outstanding- the film was around 230mins long, but i was so hooked it made the film 130mins!!!

Just for once .... believe the hype!5
Usually when I hear how great a film is, when I eventually see the movie it sometimes may be good, but very rarely does it live up to the hype. However, this exceptional film exceeds the hype.

This latest Batman film is better than anything else before it, even the brilliant 'Batman Begins'. This is certainly better than the Tim Burton franchise of Batman from the 80's and 90's. This is Batman for adults and gone is all the cheasyness of the first set of films from over a decade ago.

The main villian is obviously 'The Joker' and this new darker and more sinister version of Batman's nemises is more menacing and believable. Gone is the stupid plastic grin, from Jack Nicolson's version, and this new Joker from Keith Ledger is much more of an enjoyable villain. Keith Ledger's role is truely exceptional. Also, what I liked about this film is that they dont try to tell Joker's back-story and this adds to the mistique of the character. Keith Ledger's joker is much more believable and therefore much more disturbing and threatening. The most important thing this franchise does right, is that they dont kill off the Joker after one film. This was a major problem with Tim Burton's version of the franchise. You dont kill off a character as important as the Joker.

Im almost certain in saying this is by far the most enjoyable comic-to-film adaptation to date. The film is obviously aimed at the right people ... ie. comic book fans that have grown up. This isnt a mere chick-film like the dreadful 'Superman Returns' or the first two 'Spiderman' movies. This isnt a film overly reliant on CGI, nor is it a chease-fest like appaulling 'Ghost Rider'. This is how these sorts of film should be made.

I really havnt a bad word to say about this film ... best film of the year.

Available in 26", 32" & 37" Screen Sizes

The BRAVIA V4000 Series LCD TV in HD Ready resolution offers excellent connectivity with 3x HDMI and BRAVIA Theatre Sync, together with the excellent picture quality you would expect from BRAVIA Engine picture processing technology.

HD Ready (1366x768) HD Ready (1366x768) To appreciate just how good a high definition picture is, it helps to know how TVs, DVDs and VHS worked in the past. Until recently, there was only one type of broadcast format – Standard definition - SD. With SD, the level of detail in the picture resolution is limited. SD has a resolution of 720 X 576, which means 576 horizontal lines of 720 pixels each. Pixels are the dots which make up a digital picture. The new HD formats boost resolution far beyond SD, giving your TV a level of clarity and detail that is absolutely breathtaking.
Integrated Digital Tuner / Freeview Integrated Digital Tuner / Freeview Having an integrated Digital Freeview Tuner means that your TV has a built in receiver that will give you access to many more channels without the need to have any additional hardware, such as a Freeview box. In 2007, the government began switching UK broadcasting to digital, so if your TV doesn’t have an integrated digital tuner feature you won’t be able to view any channel without buying the additional hardware.
BRAVIA Engine BRAVIA Engine BRAVIA Engine is the high picture performance engine used in the latest Sony LCD televisions. An original picture tuning and noise reduction process was developed by Sony to guarantee vivid and high contrast images. The complex noise reduction process enhances low contrast images until they are crisp and realistic, and processes blues, greens and whites within each frame to generate the richness and colour accuracy.
Dynamic Contrast Dynamic Contrast Contrast ratio is improved and all shades between the brightest white and the darkest blacks are maintained, so the picture has more depth and detail.

This is achieved as the backlight brightness adjusts according to the brightness of the scene. Sony’s unique dynamic contrast system features ACE (advanced contrast enhancer) which ensures all of the subtle shades of grey are maintained. The V4000 Series delivers a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 30,000:1 (37’’ 22,000:1).
BRAVIA Theatre Sync BRAVIA Theatre Sync BRAVIA Theatre Sync is a new way of controlling Home Theatre setups. So simple Sony5
It took me 6 months to buy this television set. The vast range of styles and features available at the moment makes buying a TV a nightmare for the non technical. Through luck rather than judgement I seem to have got it right. This Sony was working five minutes after I lifted it out of the box with a sharp well balanced picture and a clean sound. The instructions are clear and concise and are easy to understand. I have it connected to aSony RDR-HXD890 Freeview+ 160GB Hard Disc Drive DVD Recorder - Black. It is a combination which does everything I wanted it to do.

Poor specification for connecting sound to peripherals3
Although this TV offers the Bravia theatre function be warned that it cannot output TV sound to Sony's popular Bravia Home cinema system (Sony DAV-DZ260 - 5.1 ch - DVD Home Cinema System - Black. Perfect Christmas Gift Ideas For the Men in Your Life

Men will often complain that their wives are difficult to Christmas shop for, but they're not so easy to please themselves. Many women have a tough time buying Christmas gifts for the man in their life, regardless of whether it's a boyfriend or a husband, their father or even their boss. If you have no idea what to buy the man in your life this Christmas, read on for some helpful hints to get those creative juices flowing.

Let's start with boyfriends, that hot man that you are lucky enough to be dating. Christmas gifts that he'll love would be anything sports or gadget related. If he loves sports then you could buy tickets to see his favourite football team play, or a sweatshirt sporting his team's logo. If he's more into physical activities then you might consider gear such as snowboards, skateboards or footballs. If he's a tech-head then think about a new mp3 player, digital camera or laptop.

Sooner or later that hot-man will grow up (well just a little) and we get married. Christmas gift ideas for our husbands and the fathers of our children deserve something special too. How about a beer gift basket filled with beers from around the world so that he can relax and unwind? If your guy only likes one kind of beer you might want to think about a personalised beer glass. If you have children you might want to consider a mouse mat or mug with their picture on. your husband will be able to take it with him to the office and show off his little darlings to his colleagues.

We shouldn't forget our own fathers as they deserve a wonderful Christmas gift too. After all they have been there to encourage us and helped us become the fine women we are today. Think about items to support his hobbies, like fishing equipment or tickets to a ball game. If your dad is into gadgets you might also consider a satellite navigation system for his car.

Finally that leads us on to our grandfathers. They are indeed a special breed of men who deserve recognition of their status as a grand-dad. Some Christmas gift ideas for your grandpa include movie collections based on the world wars, or even a set of John Wayne films. For great grandpas you might consider a digital photo frame full of photos of your little ones that he can enjoy all year round.

The Best Inexpensive Christmas Gift That People Love by Richard Mas

Sometimes, especially this year with the recent economic crisis, we need to find Christmas Gifts that meet our budget but do not sacrifice quality or make us come across as cheap. I have found that gift for you this year.

When we actually consider Christmas Gifts, we need to ask ourselves: What will the person that I am giving this gift to think of it? Will they like it? Does it suit their tastes? And, perhaps most importantly, will they use it?

The fact is that most Christmas Gifts go unused by the person who receives them. They give a perfunctory smile and "Thank You" but the reality is that most gifts go primarily unused. Occasionally, we are given a gift that blows all other away that we use all the time like the iPod Nano Purple but these gifts are few and far between.

But the gift that I will propose as the Best Inexpensive Christmas Gift That People Love may go beyond even the iPod.

Beyond the gift-giving and craziness of the Holiday Season lies the true meaning of Christmas: the joy and love of family, friends, and neighbors. Christmas is a season of giving, not just of gifts but of each other. Christmas is a time to share the beauty of life with all of those that you love.

I will share a story with you and in the story I will reveal what the Best Inexpensive Christmas Gift That People Love is and why they love it.

This summer I had to get my friend Patty a gift for her birthday. Sometimes, women are a little harder to buy for and I was stumped about what to get Patty. I wanted to give her something that conveyed to her how much that our friendship meant to me. Many ideas crossed my mind but they did not seem personal enough. Clothes, jewelry, books...but nothing quite seemed to inspire me.

It was in this period of indecision I happened upon the Best Inexpensive Christmas Gift That People Love. It seemed silly, even trite at first. But then I thought more about it and realized it conveyed exactly what our friendship meant to me. It conveyed the times and the memories that we shared together and it would be with her all the time. And, it only cost $12.99.

It is the Digital Photo Keychain. Here is what made the gift so special and what you must do to also make it special. The Digital Photo Keychain sounds exactly like what it is with an added bonus; unlike regular Photo Keychains, this one holds up to 60 pictures.

The key to this gift is what you must do before you give it You must load it up with pictures of the life you have shared with your loved one by pre-loading the keychain with pictures. After they receive it, they can upload their own pictures but you must put photos in there to begin so they can see how special that you are to them.

If you do it right, the Digital Photo Keychain makes an amazing Christmas gift that people love, value, and, in fact, use everyday.

A month after Patty received my gift, she confided: "This was absolutely the best gift I received."

    "Why?" I asked.

"Well," she responded, "I received a lot of nice, expensive gifts but none of them had that personal touch. Yours did...and it meant the world to me!"

    Progression of Digital Camera Technology

Digital cameras are devices that record images digitally on a light sensitive sensor. They can be used to take still photographs or videos. Highly versatile, they can take thousands of images on a single memory device, can record video with sound, edit these images and delete them allowing re-use of space. Digital cameras have been incorporated into many other devices like PDA'S mobile phones and vehicles. The Hubble Space Telescope is a digital camera.

Initially, the idea of digitizing images on scanners was used by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to provide astronauts with navigational information. A mosaic photo sensor would record locations of planets and stars. This would help astronauts to orbit and land. The FUJI-DS-ISP 1986 was the first true digital device that recorded images in a computerized file. The first digital camera with LCD was the Casio QV-10 in 1995.The image resolution is achieved by the camera sensor that turns light into discrete signals. Millions of "buckets that make up the sensor, count the number of photons that strike it. The brightness of the image is dependant on the number of pixels (the smallest unit of information for an image).

The rapid technological improvements have dramatically reduced costs. "Pixels per dollar" has become the measurement of value of a digital camera. The camera either uses the single shot or the multi-shot method of capturing an image. This refers to the number of times the sensor is exposed to the light passing through the lens. Scanning is another method wherein the sensor moves like a desk-top scanner. In some cases, scanning is achieved by rotating the whole camera, enabling one to get images of a very high resolution. In recent years, technical improvements have made single shot and LCD based cameras very popular in commercial and digital photography.

Let us dwell on the connectivity of these new model digital cameras. Early computers used the Serial port to transfer data. There are cameras that use wireless connections via Bluetooth or IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi.Modern cameras come equipped with Pict Bridge Standard which allows for the automatic transfer of data to a Pict Bridge capable computer printer, thereby circumventing the need for a computer.

These cameras lend themselves to a variety of uses. They allow one to view a photograph as soon as it is taken. With constant improvements in technology, and cutting-edge software available, modifications and digital manipulations seem almost endless. They are ideal for sports enthusiasts, who can capture fast action in all its glory. They are ideal for capturing loving moments of family get-togethers. Professionals and amateurs can use these cameras to freeze those special moments of life that come rarely!

You can compare cheap digital cameras and read reviews on Epson, Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Sony Digital Camera Reviews at Digital Camera Reviews Site.

Review of Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 46" 1080p LCD HDTV is an elegant looking set with its piano black frame. The black finish is reflective, but not annoyingly shiny like a mirror as long as you don't put it directly in front of a light source. It's a serious looking LCD HDTV with its black finish and anti-glare screen. Not only does it look nice aesthetically, but it looks awesome where it counts the most, the picture.

The picture, like the Sony Bravia V2500 models, looks amazing. No annoying glares will ruin your viewing experience and the fogging that hit some of the owners with the V2500 model is gone. If there are any, you must be unlucky. The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV has a 60 Hz refresh rate while the higher end models have 120 Hz so the motion blurring will not be as smooth as the more expensive sets. That doesn't mean it's blurry though. It's still pretty smooth during fast action sequences and you probably won't be able to tell anyway when playing HD content.

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV up-scales 480i standard definition content with its Reality Creation Multi Function v1.0 technology and you can see that it truly helps make SD stuff less horrible than it otherwise should be. This basically means watching standard programming is good, but not at the level you're used to when watching with a CRT, but also not as bad as many other LCD TVs.

The black and the contrast is good unlike what has been expected of LCDs. The colors are rich and the picture comes to life more so than other LCD HDTVs. Side by side with the Samsung or Sharp, the Sony looked better. In fact it can even compete with some of the plasma TVs out there. Just switch to normal mode and not use vivid mode and make some tweaks from there to your liking and the image will be near perfect. Try sharpening the image and increasing the black.

Configuring the settings in the Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV is a breeze with the highly regarded XMB menu system that's also in the PS3. Speaking of the PS3, watching blu-ray on the KDL-46V3000 is simply stunning. If you don't have a PS3 or a Blu-Ray player, you need to get one if you're getting an HDTV. HD-DVD is dead.

The Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV does not have PIP or picture in picture, but it does have P&P or picture & picture. You can play video from two input sources at the same time, but only from HDMI, TV tuner, and video on the left side of the TV and component on the right. That means no watching HDMI & HDMI at the same time. It's not a deal breaker since the picture quality is way up there.

Sound quality is good should you choose not to invest in a home theater surround sound system, but it does lack some oomph in the bass department. It's much better than many LCD panels out there considering how small the piano black frame is.

I recommend the Sony Bravia KDL-46V3000 1080p LCD HDTV if you don't want to spend a few extra Ben Franklins on the XBR4 and you don't want the older, but still excellent KDL-46V2500. You can't go wrong with this choice and it's one of the best bangs for the buck.

Sony Bravia N-Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV Review

The television has been a staple in American homes for over 50 years. Nearly every home in America has one, and there are enough TV's in America to fill every home with three of them. With the evolution of the TV has come thinner models, high quality pictures and a plethora of options available for your television. Sony has taken television evolution to the next level with the release of their BRAVIA N-Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV. This models high definition screen provides a crisp, bright picture that translates with the highest quality available in todays market.

Aside from the wonderful picture quality, the N-Series also offers a great built in audio system. The N-Series is great for movies and home entertain, and when coupled with surround sound the N-Series is a top of the line television that not much of the competition can actually compete with. This model also comes with a media port, which allows you to attach various audio and video devices directly to the television for quick and easy playing of music or family home movies.

The bottom line is that the Sony BRAVIA N-Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV, while long winded, is one of the best TV's available out there today for a reasonable price. the picture quality is among the best, and it has to ability to play both Blueray and HDTV. The audio is also top notch, and the interface and set up is easy to understand and simple. While the price may be a smidge higher than other brands and models, the extra money spent is well worth it when all of the features are taken into consideration.

Christmas Gifts - Top 5 Gifts For Kids

The holiday season is coming up, and it's a busy time for everyone. One of the most critical things we have to do to get ready is to shop for gifts, which isn't always easy. We have to rack our brains and search diligently for the perfect gift for family, friends, and co-workers. Luckily, for most adults, if we can't think of anything else, we have the option of falling back on the gift card idea. But for the children in your life, you usually need to get something a bit bigger. After all, opening an envelope to get to a card isn't nearly as fun as tearing open the wrapping paper around a nice present!

If you have no idea what to get your kid recipients this year, take a look at these never-fail suggestions. These include gift ideas, and ways to make each present more personal for individual children.

    Games and Toys

This may seem like an obvious answer to the gift-giving question, but I would suggest staying away from the simpler objects. Get toys that have some kind of educational value or that can be played with other children, so that the child can increase their own social skills. For older children, you could select things like the game of Scrabble, or a (more educational or interactive) video game. If you've got a much younger child to get a gift for, choose something that could help teach them how to spell, or how to distinguish between colors. You can feel good about giving these kinds of toys and games. Not only will the child have fun with your gift, but you could also see the item's benefit later in life when they are intelligent and well adjusted.

    Stuffed Animals

Plush animals are a favorite of many children, and can really be a particularly great gift. Most children love to collect them, and they're great to play with and keep close at night. Who among us hasn't had a stuffed animal to sleep with at night during some point in our childhood? And you may not realize it, but a plush toy can be educational as well, especially when it comes to younger children. When you get a realistic stuffed version of a real animal, the child will began to learn the features that animal has and will soon be able to identify it correctly in the wild or somewhere else. So they can have fun playing with them, and also increase their knowledge base. Also, the popularity of stuffed animals cannot be denied with the hype over such movies such as Madagascar and The Lion King. For example, get the child a stuffed lion, and they will soon have their very own "Simba." Or, maybe you know that the child wants a pet, but their parents aren't ready to get them one quite yet. Get them an authentic appearing stuffed dog or plush cat. That could be their first step in really understanding the animal, and learning how to take care of something.

    Arts & Crafts, and Books

This can be another great idea. Even if the child isn't a little artist, practically all children enjoy such things as coloring books. It's not too difficult for them, but still lets them really use their creativity. Both books and arts & crafts can help inspire imagination and ingenuity. You might be surprised by what they can create! Take them from simply watching cartoons to maybe creating a cartoon of their own! As for books, they also can inspire the imagination and the creative side of the brain. Teach them new things, and increase their reading skills in a way that is still fun!

    Clothing

It seems like every time we turn around, the children in our life have grown another inch. They've probably outgrown last year's winter clothes, which is why getting them a coat or a hat and mittens could be a great gift. And it may seem rather conservative for a child's gift, but it can be fun for them too. Get them clothing in their absolute favorite color, or a piece of clothing that resembles something from their favorite cartoon or movie.

    Candy

Although not as personal as a plush toy, candy can also be a successful gift for children. Just make sure you know about any allergies they have, so you know what foods to avoid!

So remember, combine the educational and practical with fun, and you'll soon have the perfect gift!

Go ahead and use Corina Volegna's ideas for the easiest holiday shopping. To get a head start on your plush stuffed toys gifts visit KCPlush.com for a wide variety of plush toys including the plush lion from the article.

    Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV

An lcd or plasma television has become an essential purchase for the most people
these days. With more and more media now made available in digital format, it has become a requirement to have the latest television at the heart of even the basic home entertainment centre. The choice is absolutely mind-boggling with the major producers releasing newer TVs to the market every few months.

There are many obstacles that present the consumer when deciding on a major purchase like a new television, especially if you have the Samsung LN46A650 LCD TV on your short list. Here I will try and address the problem of 'what is a suitable screen size'.

It is no doubt that finding the ideal screen size that will suit the available living space can present quite a head ache for some consumers. There is no problem if you are just upgrading as you will probable have a good idea what size tv can be comfortably accommodated. If you are buying a standard definition television the general rule of thumb is to get a panel that allows for comfortable viewing at a sitting distance of between three to six times the size of the screen. With most sets now being sold with the latest High Definition picture known as HDTV, the viewing distance can be reduced to between 1.5 to 3 times the screen size. This ultimately allows for larger televisions that will not give the viewer eye discomfort at closer distances.

The prices of larger LCD HDTV televisions have dropped dramatically in the last twelve months and one of the best selling lcd televisions is the Samsung LN46A650.

The LN46A650 is a beautiful looking LCD television that would grace any living space. The huge 46 inch screen will suit most consumers' requirements and features a dash of red color in the outer bezel that really sets this television apart from the competition.

Of course the physical appearance is not the major criteria of an lcd television, more than likely it will be the picture quality that will influence the consumers final buying decision. The Samsung LN46A650 LCD tv will not disappoint. The ln46a650 is getting rave reviews and is currently the best selling LCD TV at the Amazon Store. This tv is flying off the shelves at the moment and its popularity is due to the fact that the competition can not get anywhere near it with regards to price and picture quality in a lcd tv of this size.

Another big plus with the LN46A650 is the number of compliant peripherals that can be connected to it. There a four HDMI ports, Ethernet and a USB port that will allow you to connect most devices, thus turning the Samsung LN46A650 into the central hub of your home multimedia system.

    George Foreman Grills

George Foreman is one of the most well-respected grill producing companies. The grill company is well known for creating some of the best grills on the market. George Foreman grills are among the most efficient grills on the market with the best reputation.

These grills have a reputation of being able to easily grill just about anything. Generally, George Foreman grills are indoor or indoor-outdoor grills and are usually electric, but the company, George Foreman Grills, also makes some larger outdoor grills, as well as some toaster ovens and other cooking products.

Speaking from my own experience, I know that George Foreman grills are perfect for the average user who wants to use grills. There are better options if you want to use it outdoors frequently or just use it all the time, but for the occasional to moderate grill user, George Foreman grills are what you need. Generally they're smaller, but big enough to cook for around 4 to 8 people at the same time fairly easily.

Typically the grills are electric as well, though I don't believe all George Foreman products are. This is a good thing for the occasional grill cooker. They're easier to use when they're electric and they can easily be used indoors or on a patio-like area. George Foreman grills are a great product from a great company that I would highly recommend. In the end you should shop around and compare similar grills from similar companies, but I feel confident if you don't need a large grill and will only use it occasionally, that a George Foreman grill is probably what the average consumer needs.

Guide in Deciding Which LCD TV to Buy

A number of small cells are contained in the LCD display and these are called pixels. Pixels are responsible for the image sharpness that you receive as well as the quality. With the advancement of technology, the images delivered on television have become more realistic. The LCD display also has a fluorescent back light that reflects light in to a mirror and in turn, projects it on the screen.

Some of the popular models are the following:

    • Samsung LN46A650

    • Samsung LN40A650

    • Samsung LN52A650

    • Philips 37 inch widescreen HDTV LCTV digital

Aside from comparing shops, also compare brands whenever you are buying your flat screen TV. Check the websites like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Circuit City, or Target for good buys. They offer bargains that you can get. When before, LCD TVs are luxury items, now, they have become commodity items because of the advancement in technology. Companies are often in tight competition due to lesser profit margins.

Gone are the perceptions that LCD can only be used with screens that are smaller in sizes. These ideas have been proven false by manufacturers like Samsung, LG, and Sharp.

    • It is very important to set a budget first.

    • Take into consideration the features that you are looking for in your ideal flat screen. There are LCD sets which support memory cards and camcorders.

    • Decide on the size of the panel according to your room size. Note the space that is available and that if your room will not get too crowded and things like that.

    • Make sure that the viewing angles in relation to your room will be adequate.

    • Consider where the speakers are located. They may be located at the bottom while some can be found on the sides.

    • A resolution of 1366 x 768 is recommended. Here, you must think about the quality of the picture you want in case you want a bigger screen.

    • Get some feedback from customers who have already bought the product to know more about the flat screen that you want to buy. Staff in the store will also be able to help you whether they have recommendations on a certain model based on their experience.

Review Of The Sony Dream Machine

I recently purchased a new clock radio, the Sony Dream Machine, to wake me up in the morning for work. The old clock radio we had was thrown out in disgust because it was so irritating, and the buttons were not working properly from repeated frustrated beatings when I was trying to set the time.

The Sony Dream Machine is pretty standard looking, not that expensive, and has large green numbers that can be seen OK in the day, and are not too bright in the night.

It's best feature is a little paddle switch with which you can adjust the alarm time up and down. So if you want to get up 15 minutes earlier one day because the CEO is coming to visit your office, you can easily adjust it and then just adjust it up 15 minutes, back to what it was the next evening. You don't have to cycle through 24 hours, in minutes, all 1440 of them, like most other cheap clock radios.

Setting the time is the same. You can change the hours and minutes forward and backward, and not just in one direction, which is marvellous!

You can be woken up with a choice of either radio (fm and am) or buzzer, and you can switch the alarm off.

Another nice feature is that you just touch a button on the top of the radio to switch the radio on, and another button to switch it off. No horrible slider switches. This same button is used to switch the alarm off when it wakes you up. There is also another very large rectangular button to put the alarm into snooze mode, which gives you 10 minutes more sleep time every time you push it. If you push it twice in quick succession it will let you snooze for 20 minutes before waking you up. There's a lot of common sense in this radio!

The radio has a little lithium battery for retaining your settings during power failures. It should last about 5 years.

It also has a daylight saving button, which adds an hour to the time, to put the radio in summer time mode.

I've bought quite a number of clock radios in the past, and this is the first one I've actually liked. It really is a brilliant little machine, and whoever designed it has obviously put a lot of thought into it's functions.

I'm very happy, and no one is paying me to say this!

Sony has done it again putting out another top quality product with the release of the Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-46V4100 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV. This high definition Television makes other similar models look plain. The speed of motion is amazing as the Television show jumps off the screen.

The flexibility of native 1920 x 1080 displays allows any high definition content to be viewed without the need to down convert images to the native resolution of the display. Take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc players and PlayStation 3 systems that can deliver 1080p content. Playing Movies and games on these systems are unreal with the graphics that your new Sony Bravia offers. Ideas For Halloween Costume

No matter what you want to be for Halloween, of course you want to make a dramatic statement whether you want to be sexy, funny, or scary. Along with trying to make a decision, the anticipation mounts. The fun comes when you begin to change your appearance into the creature or character you have chosen. As you look in the mirror and begin to see your face change into a ghoul, a witch, or a sexy devil the excitement mounts more. Finding the perfect Halloween costume or mask to add to the excitement will be even more fun.

Do you know where the idea of wearing costumes for Halloween originated? The Celts were the first to don costumes with the belief that the spirits of the dead came to earth on Halloween night. In most cases, the ghosts were nothing to be afraid of however, some were very unfriendly toward the living since they were still alive. To hide from these spirits, the Celts donned costumes and painted their faces with soot. From then of course, Halloween costumes have developed into a large variety of spooky and even funny costumes.

Before you go searching for that perfect Halloween costume all over town, start by searching online. You can find a larger variety online than you can in the majority of stores, thus you will have a better chance to find a unique costume that will be different than your neighbors. It might be very embarrassing if you both show up wearing the same costume or if you wait too long and end up wearing a dorky costume.

Of course, the costume is not the only thing you will need transform yourself into the character you desire. You will need wigs, make-up, mask, or other accessories. A ghost or zombie costume will not be the same at all if you do not have a white face or a face that looks utterly dead. You could choose to go with a mask; however, masks of course do not look realistic and can take away from your Halloween costume.

Halloween makeup is also for children. Masks make it harder to see and are more of a hindrance than wearing makeup. You can find non-toxic makeup for the kids and then throw on a wig and they will not look like themselves at all. The same goes for you. You can look as sexy or scary as you desire with the right Halloween costume, makeup, accessories. Water based makeup or theatrical makeup works best.

Remember, you can always add different accessories such as jewelry, knives, chainsaws, vampire teeth, blood, or other things that will enhance the effect of your Halloween costume. No matter what type of costume you desire you will be able to find the perfect makeup and accessories to add that personal touch or that scary atmosphere.

    Defining Sexy Halloween Costumes

Anyone who skims an online Halloween costume website will surely examine the sexy adult costume category. This is because many people have an interest in purchasing such costumes. However, they may get a little apprehensive before outright making the purchase. This is because they may not be sure how the "public" will react to a sexy costume. They may feel somewhat confused over the proper definition of what sexy Halloween costumes actually entail. So, let's take a clearer look at what such a costume entails.

Let's make a clear distinction from the start: sexy Halloween costumes are not sleazy costumes. This distinction needs to be made because there is much apprehension about purchasing sexy adult Halloween costumes deriving from the notion the costume will be explicit in nature. Granted, there is a small modicum of the market that includes these items but the vast majority is tasteful.

Again, most sexy Halloween costumes draw from a tasteful, erotic center. A sultry vampiress or any number of "short skirt" costumes fall in this category. Really, there is nothing about these costumes that would keep them from appearing on television during family hour. This is why most sexy Halloween costumes come from common characters found in pop culture, the historical past or even everyday life. These characters are easily recognizable and this disarms them somewhat even when they are presented in a sexy fashion.

In fact, many sexy Halloween costumes end up being more humorous than sexy.
Common sexy costumes range from the ever popular cheerleader to the bare chested and burley caveman of 1,000,000 years B.C. These costumes are more based in a sense of good hearted fun as opposed to targeting an adult demographic. So, they really are safe for most events although this is not to infer that all of these costumes are safe for every event.

This is a point that truly bears mentioning again: it is critically important, however, that one selects sexy Halloween costumes for an event where such a costume would actually be appropriate. This may seem like common sense, but there will be those who become so attracted to a particular costume that they do not think as to whether or not this would be the right costume for the night it is intended. For example, a Dominatrix costume would be a real hoot in a nightclub on Halloween, but it would be absolutely disastrous at an employer sponsored event! Well, unless you work in a Dominatrix based field, that is! But, if you work at a bank you may wish to select a costume that is a little safer.

So, most sexy Halloween costumes are safe for most events although it wouldn't hurt to show a little discretion now and then as well. Often, these costumes can make for a memorable experience and anyone looking to make a huge splash should give these costumes consideration.
