One mistake many women make when buying a gift for the man in their lives is to buy too personal of a gift too soon. He may not yet be at the point where he wants to get that "intimate" with you, or give a gift that puts your relationship on another playing field.
Also, don't spend extravagantly - when he buys you a $30 gift and you spend $800 on him, this tends to make him uncomfortable and feel like you're rushing him into something.
